What is Dark Tea?
We always call dark tea Hunan black tea or "Hei Cha".
Dark tea belongs to post-fermented tea, is a unique tea in China, with long production history. It is mainly produced in Anhua County, Hunan province, Shaanxi, Hubei, Sichuan, Yunnan, Guangxi, and other places. The main varieties are Anhua dark tea, Hubei Laobian tea, Sichuan Zang tea, Guangxi Liubao loose tea, Shaanxi Jingyang Fubrick tea, and so on.
The history of dark tea can be traced back at least to the tea-horse exchange in the late Tang Dynasty. Tang Dezong Zhenyuan period, about 785-804. The origin of dark tea is generally believed to date from the early 16th century because this is the first time in Chinese history that the word "dark tea" appeared.
