What is Dark Tea Thousand Liang Cha?

We always call dark tea Hunan black tea or "Hei Cha".

Dark tea belongs to post-fermented tea, is a unique tea in China, with long production history. It is mainly produced in Anhua County, Hunan province, Shaanxi, Hubei, Sichuan, Yunnan, Guangxi, and other places. The main varieties are Anhua dark tea, Hubei Laobian tea, Sichuan Zang tea, Guangxi Liubao loose tea, Shaanxi Jingyang Fubrick tea, and so on.

The history of dark tea can be traced back at least to the tea-horse exchange in the late Tang Dynasty.  Tang Dezong Zhenyuan period, about 785-804.  The origin of dark tea is generally believed to date from the early 16th century because this is the first time in Chinese history that the word "dark tea" appeared.

Thousand Liang Tea is also called " Qian Liang Cha".During the reign of Emperor Tongzhi of the Qing Dynasty (1862-1874), tea merchants in Hunan province created Qian Liang tea, which is called Hua-roll tea, on the basis of "Bai Liang tea". One Thousand Liang tea products each net weight about 1000 Liang (currency unit), so commonly known as "Thousand Liang Tea".

It is made of Anhua local high-quality black raw tea leaves as raw material, which softened by steam is put into a long cylindrical bamboo basket mat with polyline leaves and brown slices, so the tea can reach the requirement of density and firmness by means of twisting, pressing, stepping on, rolling and hammering with sticks and other tools. Finally, form 160 centimeters high or so, 0.2 meters in diameter or so of the tree cylindrical body, under natural conditions through "sun and night dew" for 49 days with natural drying.

    How To Make Qian Liang Dark Tea?

    Step 1. Preheat the Cast Iron Teapot on the stove.
    Step 2. Turn on the heat to medium or high, and wait for the pure water to start boiling.
    Step 3. When water is boiling, Chop out 5~10g Qian Liang dark tea and put it in the pot, and let them boil for 3-5 minutes.
    Step 4. when the desired color is reached. Pour the tea into a teacup and enjoy! 

    Notice: The ratio between tea and water is about 1:60~100.  If brew without an iron teapot, must use 100C water to brew and steep for 5~10 minutes then serve.
