What is genmaicha tea
Genmaicha is a type of tea which is very popular in Japan, made by combining Sencha green tea with toasted rice. The term genmaicha collectively means "brown rice tea." It is also called bancha tea, which is not to be confused with what has come to be referred to as "bancha" in the West. As defined by Japanese law, genmaicha contains no less than 30% of rice.
This delicious tea is composed of the top part of sencha leaves, roasted brown rice and kukicha dried twig tea. It has a mellow taste with an aftertaste that is similar to butterscotch. This lovely blend packs a punch of caffeine which stimulates mental clarity and focus.
What are the benefits of genmaicha tea?
The health benefits of genmaicha tea are thought to lie in the components of both green tea and roasted brown rice. The combination brings together the polyphenols that are present in tea leaves with the fiber that is found in rice. Green tea contains catechins, which are believed to have antioxidant effects that may protect against cellular damage and aging. Fiber can help to lower cholesterol and decrease the risk of heart disease.
The taste and aroma of genmaicha tea is also considered to be comforting and relaxing. It includes woody, earthy and nutty flavors that come from the roasted brown rice and has a sweet scent that is found in green tea leaves. The combination makes it appealing to many tea drinkers and encourages them to add this tea to their daily drinking regimen.
Genmaicha tea is sometimes called brown rice tea, but it is actually a type of green tea. The name genmaicha comes from the Japanese words "genmai" and "cha," which mean roasted brown rice and green tea, respectively. It is also sometimes referred to as popcorn tea because tiny pieces of rice are added to the blend, giving it a similar appearance and texture to popped corn. Genmaicha was originally consumed in Japan but has spread across Asia and is now available around the world.
