What is Wuyi Rock Rougui Tea?

Wuyi Rougui is oolong tea. and it’s one kind of Wuyi Rock Tea (also called “Yan Cha“). It was discovered more than 100 years ago. The name Refers to the Rougui tree category of tea. Tea leaves’ shape is a tight knot and green-brown, tangy smell. Rougui tea has excellent tea quality and stable characteristics.

Difference Between Dahongpao and Rougui Oolong Tea?

1. Aroma

Dahongpao: comprehensive, common for flowers, and fruit fragrances. The fragrance of dahongpao is mainly influenced by the degree of fermentation. Fermentation light, easy-to-appear flowers. With heavy fermentation, it is easy to appear fruit flavor.

Rougui: cinnamon fragrance. Cinnamon aroma is the most characteristic of Rougui, which can be said to be the most effective way to identify it. No matter how high or low the fermentation level, there will be a cinnamon flavor.

2. Flavor

Dahongpao: The soup of Da Hong Pao still remains comprehensive and moderate, without too many ups and downs. The soup is mellow, thick, fragrant, and sweet. when sip, the soup is sweet, and fragrance falls into the water. More warm, restrained, vigorous, dignified, peaceful, and stable.

Rougui: Has a little bit more personality, a little bit more strength in the soup, and a little bit more power. This unique strength comes from the various characteristics of cinnamon. Cinnamon soup, spicy, deep, or shallow.

How To Make Rougui Oolong Tea?

The proper teaware for brewing Rougui tea is Gai Wan or Purple Clay (Zisha) Teapot. The brewing method is as same as Dahongpao.

Step 1. Preheat the Gai Wan or Zisha Teapot with boiled water. Wash the teaware inside and outside, and must be heated thoroughly.

Step 2. Scoop 1 teaspoon of Rougui tea leaves (about 4g) and put them into the teaware.

Step 3. Pour boiled water(Temperature is about 100℃) into the teaware. Kindly notice that water with low temperature can not activate the tea leaves.

Step 4. Pour out the 1st steep and add hot water again. The ratio between tea leaves and water is about 1:20~30. For 4g Rougui tea, it’s better to add about 100ml water.

Step 5. Steep for about 10~15 seconds then serve.

Notice:

1. Use boiled water since the Rougui tea is semi-fermented. When the water cools down, can use boiled water again to activate the tea leaves.

2. Steeping time can be added about 5 seconds from the 4th steep. The whole brewing process can reach the max. 7 times.

3. When filling the pot, the water should be slightly higher than the teaware surface, and then scrape off the foam from the water surface.
